As the JFK Airport community prepares for the opening of the New Terminal One, the Airport Community Foundation (ACF) is pleased to host an exclusive evening featuring a fireside chat with New Terminal One CEO Jennifer Aument. This invitation-only gathering will offer an insider’s look at one of the most transformative infrastructure projects in New York, including a preview of the guest experience, innovations, and vision that will redefine international travel at JFK Airport.
Guests will have the opportunity to engage with New Terminal One leadership, project partners, and industry stakeholders while gaining unique insights into the development of this world-class gateway.
Proceeds from the event will support the Airport Community Foundation’s work in and around the local airport community, with a focus on expanding aviation education, workforce development, career pathways for local youth, and extending a helping hand to the surrounding communities. Our beneficiaries for this event will be the aviation program at August Martin High School and the Garden by the Bay located in Rockaway Queens.

About Our Beneficiaries
August Martin High School
Located in South Jamaica, Queens, August Martin High School is a public community high school serving over 500 students in grades 9 through 12. Operating under the motto where “dreams take flight,” the school is named in honor of Captain August Martin, the first Black commercial airline pilot in the United States.
August Martin High School focuses on a holistic, student-centered educational model combining rigorous academics, social-emotional learning, culturally responsive teaching, and project-based instruction. As a community school partnered with organizations like The Child Center of New York, AMHS provides internship opportunities, work-based learning, advisory support, and Career and Technical Education (CTE) pathways.
At the centerpiece of its CTE offerings is a specialized Aviation Program, making AMHS one of the few public high schools in New York City preparing students for careers as commercial pilots, flight instructors, military aviators, and aerospace professionals.
Students progress through a four-year curriculum covering flight principles, aircraft mechanics, navigation, and advanced flight systems. Hands-on experience plays a major role: students complete medical and TSA clearances at JFK International Airport and log real flight hours at the Academy of Aviation at Republic Airport in Farmingdale, NY. Through this pathway, students work toward logging 40 required flight hours and passing the written examination to earn their Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Private Pilot License before high school graduation.
The Garden By The Bay
Nestled along the Rockaway Peninsula in Queens, New York, Edgemere is a vibrant coastal neighborhood defined by strong community ties and natural beauty, bordered by Jamaica Bay on one side and the Atlantic Ocean on the other. While the neighborhood has faced its share of challenges—from municipal neglect to severe weather events like Superstorm Sandy—its residents are known for their unwavering dedication to their home and grassroots advocacy for environmental justice.
At the heart of this civic energy is The Garden By The Bay. In partnership with NYC Parks’ GreenThumb program, this urban oasis turns vacant land into a thriving community sanctuary focused on growing fresh produce, fostering connection, and promoting environmental health. Together, the neighborhood and its garden showcase the power of community action, transforming local spaces into centers of resilience, hope, and shared growth.
